Good company in a journey makes the way seem shorter. — Izaak Walton
Welcome to my blog where I reflect on some of the journey of being a celebrant as I help people celebrate their marriage. I have to admit that every wedding I have done has been amazing: the people I meet, the stories I hear and get to tell, the nerves I calm and the people I meet who are there to celebrate have their own stamp of individuality. As I think back over so many ceremonies I have a flood of fond memories. I love sharing stories and I love helping people find the right way to celebrate their love. That is the joy of being a celebrant.
I am based in Sale in Gippsland, Victoria. It is a great place to live and has so many special settings: the hills, the beaches, the old farms and mansions and the lakes and parks all make this area perfect for finding a spot for a wedding. But I also love travelling to other locations: I have some favourite places in Melbourne – especially around Warrandyte and Kangaroo Ground where I used to live. I love the hills and the bush. Every place I go to for a wedding has its own spirit: little chapels in the hills near Mt Macedon, the cliff tops of Portsea overlooking the bay, the grandeur of the old artists’ colony of Montsalvat and the wineries of Gippsland. As couples find the right place for their wedding they are expressing something of who they are.
Another special part of being a celebrant is the honour of being invited into people’s lives. I hear stories, I know the joys of discovering the person who makes you feel that you are suddenly alive, I have heard the stories of sorrow which so many people carry with them and I know the great support people find in their friends and families. These stories become a part of your ceremony and a part of your own story. I hold these stories as special treasures as you entrust them to me.
I hope as you read this blog you can find ways to express yourselves as you plan your wedding. I hope to be able to provide some very practical pages where you can find words and ideas which might be just right for you. I also hope to be able to reflect on some of the deeper meanings of discovering and celebrating love in our world today. Please feel free to comment and, if you wish, consider asking me to be a part of your journey if you are planning to get married soon.
I hope you are able to discover something more about the nature of marriage and love in the words I share. Thank you for taking the time to read. If there is a topic you would like me to write on, or if you have a particular question, please do not hesitate to get in touch. http://jeffhobbs.com.au
